How to setup Remote Assistant
Step 1 Prepare your computer to send an invitation to help… 1) Right click the “My Computer” icon 2) Select Properties 3) Select the “remote” tab 4) Check the box for “Allow Remote Assistance invitation to be sent from this computer” 5) Select “OK” at the bottom 6) Go back to the “Start” menu 7) Select “All Programs” --> “Remote Assistance” icon 8) Select the link “invite someone to help you” Step 2 Send Option 1) Just send an email using the Remote Assistant wizard… Use the email invitation section. If Outlook or outlook express is not configured, then you will need to do that... it will prompt you and walk you through it. You can then immediately send the invitation. My email to send to: ichibanrob@hotmail.com
Send Option 2) If you use Windows Messenger then this is best… 1) You need to sign in with your Windows Messenger account (Microsoft Passport login). If you don’t have one, now is a good time to setup an account. 2) My Windows Messenger ID is: ichibanrob@hotmail.com 3) Go ahead and add me as a contact. I will accept the invite to be a contact with you. 4) Now I will be on the list of available people that you can invite to help. 5) This option is nice because we can ‘chat’ while I work on your computer. Step 3 Now for the last part… 1) So now send the invitation for “Remote Assistance” finish the wizard that walks you through sending the invite. 2) I will accept the invite… and remote into your computer and type in the password that you told me about 3) You must click on the dialog box asking you if it is okay to let me take control of your computer. 4) Then I take control of your computer. 5) At this point we both have access to the keyboard and mouse for your computer… pretty cool huh?! 6) You can just sit back and watch me work on your computer. You can see everything I can see on your monitor. I will be opening various programs and setting up the remote backup. Please don’t handle the mouse or type anything while I am configuring. It shouldn’t take too long but I may ask for you help while this is going on. I’ll probably check your computer for any missing patches and fixes while I am at it, so there may be a reboot that you will have to manage. |
